If Elon Musk could be bothered to read our articles, he’d probably laugh about what just happened to this Lucid Air 2022 Dream Edition Series model, which recently failed to sell at auction in a disgraceful way.

This is a low level luxury EV with only 1,400 miles on its two permanent magnet AC motors. It has all the functionality you could need, and it cost its original owner no less than $170,500, options included. That’s nearly double what you’d pay for a Tesla Model S Plaid. In fact, Lucid would say that the Air sedan is more of a Model S rival.

However, the most anyone would currently spend is $83,512. That’s about as much bidding as it got before the LA-based company pulled the ad, ending the auction. Basically, what the market is saying is that this two-year-old Lucid Air sedan is worth the same as a new Model S Plaid and not a penny more.

That’s what I call massive depreciation, and it also shows how high these prices can be to begin with. People should start asking themselves what on earth they are spending nearly $200k on when it comes to EVs.

I think the same applies to the Porsche Taycan, which is priced from $99,000 but the top features cost over $200k (Turbo S is $209,000 and Turbo GT is $230,000). Although, something tells me the Taycan is better equipped to handle wear and tear than the Lucid Air.

However, let’s take a closer look at these details. We’re dealing with the Dream Edition Series variant, finished in Eureka Gold Metallic with Polish Platinum contrasting pillars and a Glass Canopy roof. Other exterior highlights include soft-close doors, dynamic LED headlights, an LED taillight, along with a set of 21″ Aero Dream alloy wheels rocking Pirelli P Zero Elect tires. We should also note that there is light damage on the rear quarter panel.

Interior features include the Santa Monica scheme, which means Graphite Gray and Ceramic Nappa leather upholstery on the seats (heated, ventilated, massage function), to go with color-coordinated microsuede dashboard and door panels. You also get Eucalyptus wood accents, four-zone automatic climate control, power-operated rear sunshades, a Surreal Sound Pro sound system, and a leather-wrapped steering wheel mounted in front of a 34” big-screen display. three configurable.

As for what this can do in terms of performance – anything. The two-engine configuration works together with the 118-kWh battery, resulting in a total output of 993 horsepower and 1,025 lb-ft of torque. This car it’ll get you to 60 mph in just 2.7 seconds, though you’ll need to be gentle with the accelerator if you want your range to hover near the 500-mile mark.
