The SUV is back 20 years after it disappeared!

Opel ditches the Frontera name and associates it with a new SUV that expands its range. The new model logically adopts the German brand’s stylistic codes and is available in hybrid and 100% electric versions. The price, as well as the date of opening of orders, has not yet been communicated.

This is a trend that we see among many manufacturers. Playing on the nostalgic element to show new models, often electric. In exaggeration, we can say that brands are making something new out of something old. But after all, it’s always nice to see big names from decades gone by making a comeback, like for example Renault’s R5 E-Tech. This is also the case of Frontera, which disappeared in 2004, which Opel has just confirmed to return, 20 years later.

Visually, the Frontera simply takes its name from its predecessor. In addition to the increased clearance, the recipe has changed with the times. This model adopts the tricks of the brand, with a large black Vizor grille that connects two optics in front, and a Blitz, also black, in the middle of it. The rear face is very vertical and consists of lights in two parts. In general, if it benefits from a style of its own, the Frontera has difficulty hiding its relationship with the Citroën C3 Aircross, which its numbers admit.

Hybrid or electric, your choice

inside, Opel Frontera uses a Clear Panel, made up of large digital instruments associated with the main screen dedicated to infotainment, namely 2 x 10 inches. However, it is not known if this set will be available as standard from the first end. Opel also advertises the possibility of using your smartphone as a multimedia system, while also being able to control it via the steering wheel controls. Frontera has ergonomic seats, and special seats that are more comfortable even on long trips. The interior is spacious and therefore offers plenty of storage space, as well as an induction charging compartment for the fridge.

The brand advertises a trunk volume of 460 liters in standard configuration, a figure that rises to 1,600 liters once the rear seat is folded. This can also be divided 40/60, when the trunk is equipped with two floors as a standard.

Customers will be able to choose from two different engine types. On the one hand, the Frontera will be offered in a mild hybrid version with a 48V cycle, Opel having already announced several power levels. On the other hand, this new SUV will also be available 100% electric. Now it remains to know the technical details of the range, as well as the price and the date of arrival on the market.
