Assen, race 2: Daniel Mogeda takes second win / Supersport 300 World Championship

While Kawasaki rider Daniel Mogeda also won the second race of the Supersport 300 World Championship in Assen, his brand mate Loris Veneman was celebrated for second place. Phillip Tonn brought the only KTM to the finish line in 13th place.

From this year, the starting grid for the second race will be determined using a new system: it was not only the Superpole that counted, but the fastest lap time from race 1 to the top 9. From the 10th position, the results of the Superpole. The aim is to get the same result as the Superpole race in the Superbike category, when the top nine will take the starting three rows of the second race.

The front row is led by Aldi Mahendra (Yamaha), followed by Daniel Mogeda (Kawasaki) and David Salvador (Yamaha). In fourth place, Phillip Tonn (KTM) is the beneficiary of the new system – Saxon was 20th in Superpole and twelfth in the first race. His teammate and world champion Jeffrey Buis was declared unfit to race after his crash, as were Matteo Vannucci (Yamaha) and Kevin Sabatucci (Kawasaki).

When the race started at 12:45 pm the weather was sunny, although ominous dark clouds were approaching the race. The asphalt was completely dry and remained so for the entire twelve-lap race.

In a turbulent final lap, Kawasaki rider Daniel Mogeda, who had already won the first race, took the win. Second place went to local hero, Loris Veneman (Kawasaki), to the delight of the Dutch fans. Another Kawasaki rider, Petr Svoboda, came third.

In the first third of the race, Tonn also fought bravely at the front with only KTM, but then slowly fell back. From lap 8 onwards, Saxon could no longer keep up with the pace of the front group and crossed the finish line in 13th place.
