Test drive – new Avenger e-Hybrid with innovative 48Volt hybrid engine | Jeep

  • The Jeep® brand is testing its e-Hybrid model and is inviting respected journalists to explore the key features of its innovative 48Volt Hybrid engine technology.
  • Starting March 12, journalists will have the opportunity to navigate the Balocco and its surroundings on two different routes designed to highlight and evaluate the classic Jeep essence of the new Avenger e-Hybrid.
  • The test drive also includes the latest Jeep Renegade and Jeep Compass e-Hybrid.

Between March 12 and 20, European journalists at Balocco – an international landmark in experimental development – will have the unique opportunity to reflect on the unique characteristics of the e-Hybrid vehicles of the Jeep® brand, using the new Avenger e- of the e-Hybrid as the first vehicle to reveal itself. Balocco is home to some of Jeep’s latest models, notably the Renegade, and offers the best European off-road track and all the road testing you need.

Eric Laforge, head of the Jeep brand in Europe, said: “At Jeep, the new Avenger e-Hybrid is very important because it further strengthens the “freedom of choice” we offer to the customer. It is a third option, along with petrol and electric options fully, which provides the first entry point to electric mobility for those who feel they are not yet ready to participate in this market evolution. The new Avenger e-Hybrid combines the electric transmission and automatic transmission that many customers currently desire.

The press day experience, intended to show that the Jeep brand stands alone in offering a compact hybrid that performs as well as a full hybrid, begins with the new Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid. Powered by its innovative 48-volt hybrid engine, the new Jeep Avenger e-Hybrid delivers exceptional performance while reducing CO2 emissions, continuing the Jeep brand’s pioneering journey towards electrification.

What journalists will certainly notice on the road is that the engine powering the new Avenger e-Hybrid represents the pinnacle of technological achievement, offering both comfort and performance. With this advanced technology, the new Avenger e-Hybrid offers a unique driving experience, allowing enthusiasts to embrace electric mobility at low speeds. This is possible by combining the 6-speed e-DCS6 dual-clutch automatic transmission with an integrated electric motor.

The route describes the two souls of the Avenger: easily on and off road. On the one hand, the road course gives the driver the opportunity to test hybrid features (energy recovery and low-speed electric driving) and technical features such as L2 driving. On the other hand, the off-road model shows its all-terrain, all-weather capabilities, using all the USPs of the model: selected terrain, slope control, ground clearance and off-road corners. Participants can test the new Avenger e-Hybrid with challenges in every way: driving as much electricity as possible on the road and taking the off-road course with ease.

The new Avenger e-Hybrid is designed as the first entry in electrification. It uses a power train based on a lightweight 48V hybrid system that can provide a near-complete hybrid experience. The 100hp combustion engine, coupled to a 21kW electric motor, is then mated to a six-speed automatic transmission and 48V belt starter for a smooth transition to electric drive that also offers further CO2 savings. The 0.9 kWh lithium-ion battery is located under the driver’s seat, without affecting the interior space, which remains the same as the petrol Avenger.

The complete 48V hybrid system weighs only 60 kg more than a standard automatic transmission. This puts the total weight of the new Avenger e-Hybrid at just 1280 kg.

The new Avenger e-Hybrid significantly reduces fuel consumption and conserves energy through Adaptive Brake System which is provided when needed in the hybrid cycle. In addition, the electrified automatic transmission included in the 48V hybrid system reduces fuel consumption by up to -20% compared to a conventional automatic transmission. Overall, the consumption of the 48V hybrid system is -13% compared to the hot engine, and if we consider only urban driving, the reduction can be up to -28% on the WLTP urban cycle.

This brings the Avenger e-Hybrid’s emissions to a maximum of 111 g/km CO2 and real fuel consumption equal to 20.4 km/l based on the WLTP cycle.

In addition, the electric motor and the fuel engine can move the front axle independently. This means that all low-speed maneuvering can be done in silent, electric mode for more than 50% of city travel, significantly reducing the stress of daily driving. The new Avenger e-Hybrid offers effortless driving comfort, from parking the car with electronic parking to making traffic almost bearable with the ease of crawling and electronic queuing. Additionally, the new Avenger e-Hybrid can travel up to 1 km with the combustion engine off, for smooth driving in low-emission zones such as 30 km/h zones.

The new Avenger e-Hybrid offers what customers value most about the true hybrid experience: sustainable yet comfortable driving. At the same time, the system can provide additional excitement through the E-Boost function if desired. In this case, the torque of 55 Nm from the electric motor is added to the torque already available through the heat motor. This improves elasticity at low speeds and when starting the car.

The hybrid system, with the addition of a 48V belt starter, also ensures smooth and quick transitions between electric and combustion modes.

But there is another feature of the new Avenger e-Hybrid that makes driving easier and more enjoyable: the new e-DCT6 transmission, now available in the Avenger range, is ideal for stress-free driving in the city and on the road. . highway, with steering paddles to add fun to this calm state of mind.

The new Avenger e-Hybrid has more than 200mm of ground clearance, an approach angle of 20°, a braking angle of 20° and a departure angle of 34°, meaning that the Jeep’s main power is still there, but it’s just a hybrid. In fact, it also offers 6 riding types and 7 positions: 3 for city and long-distance travel: Normal-Eco-Sport, 3 for off-road adventures: Sand-Mud-Snow. Plus Hill Descent Control, which reduces the risk of slipping and losing control on steep and difficult slopes.

The new Avenger e-Hybrid is available in 3 versions

All come standard with a full digital interface and a 7-inch cluster: wireless AA/CP, LED headlights, selectable themes, steering pads and a full set of safety features. From there, each customer can choose the dimensions that best suit their needs.

Cruise control is present, while safety and technology remain intact, with a full range of features including with autonomous emergency braking, traffic sign recognition, lane keeping assistant and active driver assistance. Moving up, there’s the Elevation: Jeep’s top-of-the-line ride with added style and comfort. The exterior design is enhanced by 17-inch alloy wheels. Inside, premium seats provide another touch of elegance. Additional features such as a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and adaptive cruise control add to the luxury of the car.
