2023 Challenger Black Ghost: Another Tribute to the Famous Dodge

Dodge on Wednesday launched the sixth of seven special editions that aim to celebrate the end of The load And A competitor as we know them.

After the Challenger Shakedown, Charger Super Bee, Challenger Scat Pack Swinger, Charger Scat Pack Swinger and Charger King Daytona, here comes the Challenger Black Ghost 2023.

Like its predecessors, this special edition pays homage to the past and to the legendary Dodge, the 1970 Dodge Challenger RT SE by Godfrey Qualls. His car rocked Detroit’s Woodward Avenue with its 426 (7 liter) HEMI engine before disappearing for several long months, hence the nickname “Black Ghost”. It is now listed on the US National Register of Historic Cars and remains in the possession of the de Qualls family.

So much for the history lesson. As for the 2023 Dodge Challenger Black Ghost, it is based on the SRT Hellcat Redeye Widebody version and increases power to 807 horsepower. The All-Black, chrome-accented exterior includes a vinyl roof cover that mimics alligator skin, just like the original Black Ghost.

Also noteworthy are the hand-lettered “Challenger” lettering on the grille, fenders and spoiler, white stripe on the rear fenders and fuel filler flap. Behind the 20 x 11-inch Folding Speed wheels with a satin carbon finish, six-piston Brembo brake calipers are also black.
