It’s not just Europe. We know when the Cupra will come to the USA

We’ve known for a while that Cupra will want to achieve the American dream. Now, however, the CEO of the brand has finally released the first information about when and how this would happen.

When Cupra took its first steps in 2018 as an independent brand, separated from the Seat models, perhaps few people expected that the Spaniard could become more powerful in just a few years. Only in 2023, Cupra sold 230.7 thousand. copies, which is a very impressive increase compared to 2022 – by as much as 50.9%.

Of course, appetite increases when you eat. Currently, the Martorell brand focuses on the European market and is doing well, although it is also available in Australia. However, there is one more market that the Spanish manufacturer wants to enter in the next few years, and it is not surprising that it is the United States.

The first information about Cupra’s plans to fulfill the American dream reached us in September 2023. These plans were confirmed by the CEO of the brand, Wayne Griffiths, but no specific details were given. However, this changed during the event where the Kiti group’s financial results were presented.

Griffiths confirmed that the Cupra will come to North America later this decade. So we don’t have an exact date yet, but we already know that Spanish models will move to the other side of the Atlantic before 2030. Additionally, the brand’s CEO revealed some details about the expected variety and individual steps of the plan to enter America.

At the end of the decade, the Cupra will enter the American market. We plan to introduce an electric version of the Formentor and a large electric crossover SUV. It will be produced at Volkswagen Group plants in North America, including Mexico. Initially, the Cupra will be launched in select states on the east and west coasts and in the Sun Belt states (southern US – editor’s note). This will be done through a new distribution model.
