Bugatti Chiron Super Sport commemorating the 1931 24 Hours of Le Mans

It would have had its place on the starting grid of the 24 Hours of Le Mans if the Hypercar division had remained close to the GTs of the late 90s as originally planned.

The Bugatti Chiron Super Sport “Hommage T50S” draws its roots from the classic Le Mans car. If Bugatti won the 24 Hours of Le Mans for the first time in 1937 with the Type 57G Tank, you have to go back to 1931 to see Ettore Bugatti’s brand in the Sarthe. Three models of the 50s were at the beginning under the body of Equipe Bugatti and none at the end.

The customer of this Bugatti Chiron called on Jascha Straub, the designer in charge of Custom projects at Bugatti, to design a unique version of his Super Sport. It was chassis 50177 that carried the number 5 at Le Mans in 1931 that served as the basis for the Chiron Super Sport “Hommage T50S” in a sharp, glossy black finish. The #5 bib is painted in the middle of the large grille, not to mention the 5 painted on each Bugatti door.

The inscription “Le Mans 1931” is placed between the doors and the rear wheels, with a graphic of the 24 Hours of Le Mans Circuit hidden under the rear wing.

“The 50s series continues the line of Bugatti cars that helped establish the pioneering vision of Ettore and Jean in the early 1930s – that of powerful racing cars, with big engines built for performance”said Jascha Straub, designer in charge of the brand’s Custom projects. “The Type 50S – and especially chassis 50177 – are important cars in our history. To have such an enthusiastic customer who wants to celebrate this racing legend is a real privilege. We discussed for months how we could create a real tribute, looking at every detail to ensuring that it lives up to the incredible history of the Type 50S, but also to meet our brand’s standards of quality ยป.

To prepare for the photo shoot, the Loh Collection of the Stitung Nationales Automuseum provided Bugatti Type 50177 chassis for the two-era meeting.
