With the announcement of the Cybertruck in November 2019, Tesla put additional pressure on the main car manufacturers in the USA: just two years later, the electric pickup was scheduled to start production and was available as a basic model for just $40,000. However, the intended date was not reached, and in August 2022, CEO Elon Musk said that the previously mentioned Cybertruck prices are no longer applicable. The same thing happens with the competition, at least when it comes to pricing: The first electric Silverado pickups from GM’s Chevrolet brand (see photo) are now said to cost at least $79,800.

Take an electric car with a lot of variety

When the Silverado EV was introduced in early 2022, the Cybertruck had already been delayed by two years to 2023, but Tesla had yet to publicly say goodbye to the price — and GM also wanted to offer its electric pickup truck starting at $39,900. This spring was named as the date of this, and it almost stayed that way: according to one person InsideEVs report The first electric Silverados are already in production and should reach customers in the next few weeks. However, initially only the fleet will be offered – with the 4WT version for $79,800.

Instead of the previously mentioned 400 miles, it should have an EPA range of 450 miles (724 km) — close to the top of the range truck, which Tesla has announced at more than 500 miles. According to reports, the Chevy pickup has a battery with more than 200 kilowatt hours; Tesla’s potential is still unknown. However, General Motors has said goodbye to the electric pickup for $ 40,000 at this time: in the press release of the Silverado EV it is announced that it will be available later to order in other versions and also for private customers – at starting prices. for $50,000.

For now, however, the electric pickup will cost at least $79,800 and then $74,800 with a small battery, and this means that the price point set in advance by Tesla goes further. In the past, Ford was also interested in this and previously offered its F-150 Electric starting at $40,000. After several increases, you’ll now have to spend at least $62,000 for this electric pickup — and you’ll only get an EPA range of 240 miles.

Tesla Cybertruck at the same price point?

Cybertruck is unlikely to be released below this level before. One observer recently estimated a starting price of at least $75,000 for a Tesla pickup. At GM, “shortly after the launch” of the 450-mile WT4 version, a Silverado EV 3WT with a range of at least 350 miles will be available at this price. For Tesla, CEO Musk has announced the event and the first delivery of the Cybertruck towards the end of September. In terms of time, General Motors is now equal to its electric pickup – and possibly also in terms of price and range.
