5 Minors Killed in New York Crash Are Related, Recently Moved to Derby: Superintendent – NBC Connecticut

Five minors perished in a fatal crash in New York on Sunday, and according to the Superintendent of Derby Public Schools, they were related and had recently relocated to the town of Derby from another state.

The incident occurred on Sunday evening in the town of Spring Valley, when a Dodge Challenger veered off of the roadway and struck a tree. Five of the six occupants of the vehicle, all minors, were pronounced dead at the scene. The sole survivor, a 17-year-old, was immediately transported to a nearby hospital.

Superintendent of Derby Public Schools Matthew Conway disclosed that the victims of the accident were related, and had recently relocated to the town of Derby from another state.

“The Derby Public Schools community is deeply saddened by the news of this tragedy involving our students,” Conway said in a statement. “Our thoughts and prayers are with the families and friends of the students.”

The identities of the victims have yet to be released to the public.
