Midway was honored for 50 years as a Chevy | dealer Information

ORWELL — Fifty years of community service were honored Thursday afternoon when Chevrolet representatives presented Midway Chevrolet with an award for 50 years as an auto dealer.

The history of the family business goes back further in the Scott family. Brothers Jack and Jim Scott are co-owners of Midway.

“My grandfather started this place in 1934,†Jack Scott said.

He said that the business was previously a gas station that provided car repair services.

“I grew up here,†Scott said.

He said the business began selling Pontiac cars in 1936.

“We found Chevrolet in 1974,†Scott said of the start of the long-standing relationship.

He said the business currently employs 30 people, including three generations of his family.

Scott said it’s sometimes a challenge to have a family working in the same business, but they’ve been able to make it work.

The business has been involved in supporting many organizations in the area. The annual car show to support South Central Ambulance is scheduled for August 3.

Two Chevrolet representatives were on site to celebrate the occasion. Chevrolet area manager Matt Berkowtiz and Chevrolet district sales manager Pete Finzel assisted in the ceremony.

Finzel presented the Scott family with a 50-year award.

“It is not normal,†he said of a business in the same family for half a century.

Pizza and other goodies were available for participants and marketing staff.

Jim Scott said the ceremony was exciting.

“I have been here all my life. it’s the only thing I know. (I’m happy) we can still be part of the community,†he said.

Jack Scott said the Internet has changed his business as well as many aspects of society. He said people were driving to dealerships from long distances looking for a special car.

“Now they only use the internet,†he said.

Jack Scott said the business tries to provide a variety of services in a small community.
