$500K bond for 19-year-old charged with fleeing police, possessing machine gun in Round Lake Park

A 19-year-old Round Lake Park resident was held on a $500,000 bond Friday after being charged with fleeing police, possession of a machine gun, and other weapons-related offenses.

According to police, the suspect, whose identity is being withheld due to his age, led officers on a pursuit Thursday evening before being apprehended in the early hours of Friday morning.

The chase began when officers attempted to investigate a report of a suspicious person in a vehicle around 11 p.m. Thursday. When the officers approached, the suspect allegedly drove away, initiating the pursuit.

The chase ended in the early morning hours with the suspect’s arrest. During the pursuit, police noticed what appeared to be a machine gun in the suspect’s vehicle. Upon further investigation, they discovered that the suspect was in possession of a machine gun and other illegal weapons.

The suspect was subsequently charged with fleeing police, possession of a machine gun, and other weapons-related offenses. He was held on a $500,000 bond Friday.

The defendant is scheduled to appear in court next month. If convicted, he faces a maximum penalty of 10 years in prison and a fine of up to $250,000.
