the 2024 BMW i7 M70 xDrive, the pristine paragon of opulence and sophistication within the automaker’s innovative electric lineup. This distinguished range topper is propelled by two electric motors, producing a formidable 650 horsepower, exuding the pinnacle of power and performance.
Elevating its unparalleled prowess, the M70 presents a launch control setting that enhances the already monumental torque output to a peak of 811 pound-feet, enabling this exquisite behemoth to leap from 0 to 60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds, as per BMW’s estimations.
Adding to its allure, the M70 features a sleek black trim on its exterior and can be adorned with a flamboyant two-tone paint that elevates its visual appeal to a whole new level.
The 2024 BMW i7 M70 xDrive will grace the stage at the illustrious Shanghai auto show, marking its grand debut as the most commanding and authoritative electric vehicle in BMW’s illustrious history. This luxurious sedan boasts a combination of two electric motors that generate an astounding 650 horsepower, surpassing the 536-hp i40 M50, which BMW proudly boasts as the M division’s global best-seller, and the 610-hp iX M60. Notably, the M-specific rear unit, with a whopping 483-hp, will undeniably emerge as BMW’s most potent electric motor yet.
The M70, an electric vehicle from BMW, boasts a colossal peak torque output of 811 pound-feet, which can only be unleashed in the launch control setting or when utilizing the M Sport Boost function. BMW purports that the M70 can accelerate to 60 mph in a mere 3.5 seconds, rendering it the fastest electric vehicle in the BMW fleet. In Sport mode, drivers must contend with a still impressive 748 pound-feet of torque, and top speed is limited to 155 mph.
The M division has fine-tuned the chassis of the high-performance i7, which is equipped with an M-specific adaptive air suspension featuring electronically controlled dampers. The body of the sedan has been reinforced, and rear-wheel steering and active roll stabilization should imbue the car with agility, despite its size.
The front brakes sport four-piston fixed calipers, while the rear brakes feature single-piston floating calipers, both adorned with an M logo and painted blue. Alternatively, they can be coated in black with an optional package. The M70 rides on 21-inch wheels, unique to this model, but they can be substituted for 20-inch wheels clad in performance tires.
Despite the M70’s prodigious performance, BMW insists that the vehicle’s 101.7-kWh battery can provide up to 295 miles of range, a distance not too dissimilar from the standard i7. A novel drive mode, Max Range, restricts the M70 to 56 mph, limits power, and deactivates the climate control, heated and ventilated seats, and heated steering wheel to conserve energy.
Max Range can be disabled by pressing the accelerator pedal to the floor, selecting the M Sport Boost function with the left paddle shifter, or turning the window defroster to its highest setting. The i7 M70 supports DC fast charging of up to 195 kW, with BMW claiming that the battery can charge from 10 to 80 percent in a mere 34 minutes.
The M70’s appearance distinguishes it from its lesser i7 counterparts, thanks to its black trim, side skirts, and rear diffuser insert. The M Performance Professional package augments the M70’s appearance further by adding a black rear spoiler, a black trim piece between the taillights, and more black trim on the rear bumper. Like other i7 models, the M70 can be customized with two-tone paint, and the outline of the large kidney grille illuminates.
