The flagship i7 M70 xDrive has integrated drive units on the front and rear axles, which combine the electric motor, electric power and transmission in one highly integrated housing. The M-specific configuration of the drive system technology enables the rear axle to achieve higher levels of energy density with a 25.5 percent increase over the rear axle drive unit in the i7 xDrive60. The rear engine produces a peak power of 335 kW equal to 456 hp and its coordinated interaction with the front engine of 190 kW (258 hp) produces a system torque of 1,015 Nm in Sport mode and up to 1,100 Nm in M Launch Control or when the M Sport Boost function is enabled. This function is activated by a paddle shift on the left side of the steering wheel and is indicated by a specific Performance graphic in the instrument cluster.
At the same time, Bmw IconicSounds Electric and Hans Zimmer provide the perfect acoustic accompaniment by switching to a rising note, specific to the M Performance. The character of the soundtrack varies depending on the selected drive setting, with a distinctly audible difference between My Personal Mode and Sport. The BMW i7 M70 xDrive has an impressive energy density of a high-voltage battery that provides 101.7 kWh of usable energy. This gives a range of 488-560km and makes it particularly suitable for long-distance use. The combined charging unit has an advanced charging program that can extend the range up to 170 km in just ten minutes when stopped at a high-power charging station.
