Skoda is launching its future urban SUV Epiq

Although we expected to discover new details about the Elroq electric SUV expected by the end of the year, Skoda surprised us by presenting another, smaller car instead: the Epiq. The Czech brand takes the opportunity of its annual meeting with the press about its results (sales figures, profits, etc.) to raise the curtain on its upcoming projects, including this urban SUV planned for 2025.

Skoda Epiq already looks very advanced, as the brand publishes not only abstract models but also realistic 3D models that are very close to the photos. The design of the car seems to be about to be revised, with the typical design of recent Skodas and the new “Modern Solid” language, including very narrow front lights, placing shields here that connect the Jeep-style vertical slit, or even the lines of power in the profile that join the rear gate, where the very sharp T-shaped lights are integrated. The design is clearly recognizable as an SUV, with its distinctive wheel arches that appear to be made of recycled materials, or its roof bars.

A city car with long legs

Skoda notes that its Epiq will have a reduced size with a length of 4.10 m (i.e. the same size as Jeep Avenger, Fiat 600e or even Alfa Romeo Milano), but it will be generous in terms of space on board and passenger room for 5 passengers and luggage theirs. The trunk would go up to 490 liters depending on the brand, very good value for such a small car. But the brand has already accustomed us to this, as the Fabia city car is already one of the best in the category with a volume of 380 liters when the back seat is in place, with a corresponding size of 4.10 m in the current generation.

The Czech manufacturer also reveals the interior, or at least an accurate idea of how it will look as the car is still in the concept stage (in fact, very close to the range!). The dashboard is quiet, with regular and rectangular shapes. A good-sized central touch screen (about 12 to 13 inches) is placed high above the fabric element, while the central console integrates an induction charger and a few physical buttons. The steering wheel also has physical touches, including small knobs reminiscent of those on the future Volkswagen ID.2. Behind the steering wheel there are digital devices on a small panel. The urban SUV has a back seat for three passengers in the second row.

Skoda Epiq will be used only with an electric unit, the actual power or characteristics we do not know yet. On the other hand, Skoda already gives an estimate of its autonomy, more than 400 km. It is enough to compete with Stellantis competitors, which also show this kind of practicality. Skoda can play an additional card with a better price: the manufacturer estimates that its SUV will start around €25,000, while the electric Jeep Avenger and the Fiat 600e will be more than €35,000. Skoda notes that production will take place at the VW group’s plant in Pamplona, Spain, with the future Volkswagen ID.2 and Cupra Raval, in particular.
