The February 9, 1989The Chicago Auto Show made a revolution: the Mazda MX-5, a sports convertible that will mark the history of the car. Inspired by the British road racers of the 1960s, but with modern and reliable technology, the MX-5 has won over fans of open-top driving, with its elegant design, featherweight and surprising lightness.
The MX-5 has continued to improve over the years. four generations (called “NA”, “NB”, “NC”, then “ND” for the last one), while remaining faithful to its original philosophy, based on driving pleasure. Since its launch in 2016, the current and fourth generation of the Mazda MX-5 continues to appeal to fans of the model, with the top-smooth version, but also the “RF” version with a fast design and an electric roof system which can be returned. .
Today, the MX-5 is the best-selling roadster in the world, quite rightly 1,256,745 copies produced by the Mazda Ujina plant, located in Hiroshima, Japan.

Mazda MX-5: a real success

In detail, it was North America where the MX-5 was the most successful, with a total of 533,301 units (or more than 40% of total production) sold under the Mazda Miata name, followed by Europe with 391,503 copies sold. In Japan, no fewer than 225,510 registrations were recorded for the MX-5, called the Mazda Roadster in its national market, after being called the Eunos Roadster at first.
This year, the Mazda MX-5 is set to celebrate its 35th anniversary and to adjust a little and new technology. In fact, it will bring the latest generation LED lights up front, while the rear lights have been subtly redesigned. Inside, we find a new integrated infotainment system, with an 8.8-inch touchscreen and two USB-C ports.
A new “Tracking” mode is also visible: designed for cyclists, it works in conjunction with the KPC system, a software-controlled car seat control device, which helps to improve cornering stability.

Under the hood, the 2024 Mazda MX-5 offers a 132-hp 1.5 Skyactiv-G engine, but also a 184-hp 2.0 Skyactiv-G unit, equipped as standard with an asymmetric limited-slip differential.
