6/6 AC Cobra GT Roadster (2023)
At the end of last year, we revealed here the return of the legend: AC Cobra. The AC Cars brand, one of the oldest car manufacturers in the UK, was actually planning to relaunch a modern version of the legendary roadster. But at that time, he released only a few pictures in the shade before the presentation, scheduled for spring. The car is now official.
It was at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, north of London (England), where the manufacturer launched its Cobra GT Roadster. It is not surprising, the model is very close to the AC Cobra of the sixties, with a long hood that is bent, to put the air intake, a short mirror or even two arches behind the two bucket seats. The round lights are modern with LED light signature. At the rear, the diffuser consists of two large round pipes. The wheels have also changed in diameter, but keep the spokes.
Choice of 460 or 663 hp V8
The passenger compartment is in the same vein, with a dashboard that takes on the aesthetics of old Cobras, consisting of many dials and buttons. In the presentation photos, we also see the door handles in brown leather, a material that is also placed on the dashboard with two narrow vertical lines. The steering wheel is taken from the old Ford Mustang, with a simple logo change in the middle. The central console is large, and inherits the Start/Stop button hidden under a red section reminiscent of a Lamborghini. Just a huge nod to the modern, unspecified screen size. It seems to be a little hidden under the dashboard, and therefore it will be useful to see for use if its position is not too off-putting.
The aluminum chassis is combined with a carbon composite body. This allows the model to retain a certain lightness, with a weight of less than 1,450 kg. The model is available with right or left hand drive. It has a length of 4.23 m (with a wheelbase of 2.57 m) with a width of 1.98 m and a height of 1.29 m. Under its long hood is a 5.0-liter V8, in two versions. The standard variant is aerodynamic and apparently derived from the Ford Mustang GT with 460 hp and 570 Nm of torque. Above, the supercharged 5.0 V8 variant delivers 663 hp and 780 Nm. In this configuration, the Cobra hits 60 mph (96 km/h) in just 3.4 seconds. The road can go up to 278 km / h according to the first homologation figures. It can have a six-speed manual transmission or a ten-speed automatic transmission with paddle shifters.
Not released!
The brand plans to release 250 copies of the Cobra GT Roadster per year for the rest of the world, knowing that the first year’s space is already reserved. The price has not been disclosed by the brand, which offers the possibility to reserve one of its vehicles on the website for a recall and to confirm its order. But in a previous press release, it quoted a price of 285,000 pounds, or around €328,000 at the current exchange rate.
