New Peugeot 5008 (2024): An electric car with a wide range

After the 3008, Peugeot will introduce the 5008 as its long version in autumn 2024. The technology is the same; in the electric version, the E-5008 can travel up to 660 km. The seven-seater will also be available as a hybrid petrol engine.

  • The Peugeot 5008 comes in both electric and hybrid versions

  • At a height of 4.79 meters seven seats

  • Luxurious cockpit with “floating” screen.

Family cars or SUVs with an electric drive, long range and seven seats? At the moment there is little choice here apart from the dreadful Kia EV9 and the BYD Tang.

For the new Peugeot 5008, the model will be added from autumn 2024 which … the cheapest regions it should be there, with a variable and elegant interior and – at least according to the first statement – with a range suitable for daily use.

Well Peugeot 5008 is it again Long version of 3008, which has just been launched in the market. The appearance, however, seems to be more conservative and the shape of the box, which is because of its high utility value. Finally, seven seats have to fit inside the 4.79 meter long, 1.89 meter wide and 1.69 meter tall. The 3008 version, as a sportier version with a shorter 25 cm and sloping rear, can transport only five people. The 5008 can be ordered as a five or seven seater.

Good comfort even back

The manufacturer promises one for the second row good leg room, but in the third row this may be more common. The next test will have to show if tall people can sit there. At least access to the very rear shouldn’t require too much flexibility for the “easy access system”: the second row can be folded all the way down and pushed forward.

Peugeot also promises that six and seven passengers should not remain in narrow folding seats, but instead, according to the press release, “thick and soft cushions” ensure good comfort even in the last row.

Peugeot 5008: The trunk is suitable for holidays

The Trunk volume The manufacturer mentions an acceptable 259 liters with all seats, a good 748 liters with five seats and a good 1815 liters with the rear seats completely closed. The backs in the second row can be folded in a ratio of 40:20:40, those in the third row in a ratio of 50:50. A margin of variation should be provided. There should be 80 liters of cargo space in the drawer at the very rear of the trunk floor.

The dashboard is similar to that of the 3008 and has a sleek and modern look. This Peugeot-typical “i-Cockpit” The basic version of “Allure” has two 10-inch screens that are combined into one elegant panel. The second version available “GT”, on the other hand, is equipped with a single screen, 21-inch, which seems to be more valuable.

Technology has been updated

What both variants have in common is that the window seems to float on the dashboard, which is partially covered in fabric, bringing a certain lightness and elegance to the car. On the right side of the panel, common functions such as navigation, entertainment and also heating can be controlled via the touch screen. There are ten of them so-called “i-Toggles”Depending on the driver’s taste, they can be assigned functions that are often used and can be activated at the touch of a button.

That Smart phone Wireless connectivity through Apple Carplay or Android Auto and inductive charging are also provided for this new car, software updates are carried out over the air, and voice control, which can be activated through the command “OK Peugeot”, is not only possible to understand the command normal, but also native language can identify. It can also distinguish whether the driver or passenger is speaking.

Engine: Hybrid of petrol and electric

Not only the cockpit, but also the drive is the same as the 3008 engines. For everyone who does not want to decide on an electric car yet, there is a small hybrid variant. and a 136 hp gasoline engine with a six-speed clutch transmission.

The small electric motor contributes some power at low speeds and reduces the load on the gasoline engine so that it can run “up to 15 percent” less on gasoline. The WLTP consumption rate is 5.7 liters per 100 km. As usual with mild hybrids, the 5008 equipped with this system can only drive electrically in certain driving conditions (starting from a distance, maintaining speed in the 30s, cruising).

Very good: distance up to 660 km

However, the focus is on drives pure electric variants. And they make you sit up and take notice: even the basic version with its 73 kWh battery should be able to travel 500 km in the WLTP cycle. And with the top version, range anxiety shouldn’t be an issue anymore: Peugeot has installed a replacement battery with one in the belly of the 5008. maximum capacity of 98 kWh – this is so far unique in this class of vehicles.

The result is a range of 660 km according to the prescribed WLTP cycle. The upcoming ADAC test will have to prove how high the range is in practice. The key data is at least very promising.

Fast reload is possible

Also something reloading anxiety. Peugeot also offers a 22 kW variant as an alternative to the standard 11 kW AC charger. And the 5008 can draw up to 160 kW from fast charging stations – which should be suitable for everyday use for short-term charging on long journeys. Peugeot talks about 30 minutes of charge time for the hub from 20 to 80 percent.

Three variants of the electric motor is provided. The entry-level version has 157 kW/213 hp, the top of the range is 170 kW/231 hp (both have an electric motor and front-wheel drive), and the more powerful E-5008 comes with all-wheel drive. with two electric motors with 237 kW/320 hp power. Peugeot has yet to announce pricing.

So the E-5008 can really be an attractive and so far unrivaled choice for families with space requirements, only electricity without restrictions drive. In any case, the Renault Scenic, VW ID.4 and Koda Enyaq cannot offer seven seats or the Peugeot range. At least in terms of range, the upcoming Opel Grandland should be able to compete with the French one – it has the same driving technology as the Peugeot 3008 and 5008. But it doesn’t offer seven seats either.
