Lucid is collaborating with The Academy of Art University School of Industrial Design (AAU) to create the car of the future, according to a press release.

The company’s design team will oversee a 90-day project where students are tasked with creating designs that “transcend traditional ideas of mobility.”

“Students are encouraged to explore everything from visual improvements to existing Lucid products to creating new, future-focused designs and concepts that reimagine driving,” the release states.

Lucid, an electric car manufacturer, orders the concept to use environmentally friendly materials and technology.

Lucid representatives will visit the campus during multiple program milestones, the release says. It says the representatives will provide insight and feedback on developing the concept.

Design concepts will be demonstrated in clay models and 3D printed prototypes, which will be evaluated by Lucid’s design team.

The university has many connections to Lucid with several students and a professor now employed by OEM. Jenny Ha, previously taught at the university while also being a key member of the design team behind Lucid Air, the release says. Industrial design graduates Sean Wilson and Roberto Bautista also work as designers for the company.

Lucid remains competitive in the EV market with shares rising nearly 8% in the past month after the announcement of $1 billion in capital from partner Saudi Arabia’s Public Investment Fund. The Saudi government has a 60% stake in the company, according to Reuters.

Lucid says it will use the funding for corporate and capital expenditure purposes.
