The new Alfa Romeo Milano will be renamed Junior within a week of its public presentation. The reason for this name change is that this very first electric Alfa is built in Poland. Many Italians were angry that the car was still called the Milano. The Italian government has announced that the use of that name is even a counterfeit of Italian products. It will be misleading to consumers, the Reuters news agency quotes Minister Adolfo Urso.

Therefore, the management of Alfa Romeo decided, at the insistence of the Italian government, to abandon the Milano name. The new model, which will also be available as a hybrid, will be called Junior. In a statement, Alfa Romeo said: “We would like to thank the public for the positive comments, the journalists for the great media attention for the new car and the government for the free publicity.”

Alfa Romeo CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato said that by changing the name he wants to avoid more conflicts and bad publicity surrounding the car. Despite the positive press release, he expressed anger at the Italian government: “The name and place of production were known for a long time. They could also pass criticism to us before the presentation.

Stellantis CEO Carlos Tavares has explained why the new small Alfa comes from Poland: This will save consumers 10 thousand euros when buying. The price of 30 thousand euros is mentioned for the basic version (hybrid).
