The driver suffers a heart attack, Tesla drives himself to the hospital

What would the world be like if cars could and were allowed to drive completely autonomously? Taxi drivers are losing their jobs and journalists who drive cars are even more out of work than they are now. Apparently, health workers can also look for new jobs. An American man decided not to call emergency services, but to use his Tesla as an ambulance.

One MaxPaul Franklin writes on Musk’s social media about a special experience with the Tesla Model Y. The self-driving Franklin suffers from diabetes. He discovers at night that he is severely dehydrated and that there is too much sugar in his blood due to a faulty insulin pump. Franklin needs to get to the hospital as soon as possible.

The man goes to the hospital in a self-driving Tesla

Instead of calling an ambulance, Franklin decides to get into his Model Y. He sets the navigation and activates Tesla’s Self-Driving function independently. According to Franklin, the car drives completely independently and therefore without intervention from the host, the entire 20 kilometers to the hospital. After that, the car parked itself well in that space.

At the hospital he is diagnosed with a mild heart attack, but later he is able to leave the hospital without any problems. Franklin then praised his car and its maker to heaven. According to him, Tesla is the ‘pinnacle of automotive innovation’. What helped of course was that the trip took place at 2:00 am, so there was less traffic.

Just call an ambulance

We would advise everyone to only call an ambulance if you are in trouble. Fortunately, an ambulance will also arrive quickly. We can imagine that the owner of the Tesla was afraid of the bill you get from the hospital for the trip in the ambulance, which is arranged a little differently in the United States.

It’s a great example of how self-driving cars could be very useful in the future, but we wouldn’t be so quick to entrust our lives to them. You don’t have to be good at Google to find examples where things go terribly wrong with FSD. Self-driving technology is still in the beta phase.

These stories are not yet happening here in the Netherlands. Since last year, the first cars that allow you to take your hands on the steering wheel on the highway have been allowed on the road. For all other roads, the car is not allowed to do anything independently if there are no hands on the wheel. The advice in all cases is: call an ambulance, they can drive you quickly.
