Action Express Cadillac Wins Sebring After Three Leaders Wreck Late

In a dramatic finish, the Action Express Cadillac of Pipo Derani, Felipe Nasr and Eric Curran won the 65th annual Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring following three leaders wrecking late in the race.

The Cadillac, piloted by Derani, Nasr and Curran, was the beneficiary of a late-race accident involving the Acura Team Penske of Ricky Taylor, Helio Castroneves and Alexander Rossi. The trio had been leading for the better part of the 12-hour race, but a collision between Taylor and the No. 77 Mazda DPi of Oliver Jarvis on the penultimate lap ended their chances at victory.

The No. 5 Cadillac, which had been running fourth, inherited the lead and kept it until the checkered flag flew, giving Derani, Nasr and Curran their first win of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.

“It was an incredible race right until the end,” Derani said. “It was a very difficult and technical race with a lot of strategy, but we managed to come out on top and it’s an amazing feeling.”

The win marked the first IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship victory for Nasr, who joined Action Express in 2018 after spending the previous three seasons competing in Formula One.

“It’s an unbelievable feeling,” Nasr said. “I’m so proud of the whole team and all three drivers. We put in a lot of hard work, and it’s great to see it all pay off with a win today.”

Derani, Nasr and Curran had an eventful race, as they were involved in multiple incidents throughout the day. However, it was their skillful maneuvering behind the wheel that ultimately enabled them to take the checkered flag.

“It was a tough race, but we kept our composure and made the right decisions at the right times,” Derani said. “It was a great team effort, and I’m so proud of everyone who worked so hard to make this happen.”

In an unexpected conclusion to an already thrilling race, the Action Express Cadillac of Derani, Nasr and Curran emerged victorious, taking the checkered flag at the 65th Mobil 1 Twelve Hours of Sebring. With their win, the trio has set the tone for the rest of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship season.
