Cost and actual use: Mitsubishi ASX 1.3 Plus

The European chapter seemed closed for Mitsubishi. But the withdrawal announcement caused an outcry – less from the population than from businessmen. In fact, behind the scenes it was possible to persuade those involved in distant Japan to continue trying in the Old World. Problem: Before Mitsubishi can release a new model in our market, it needs short-term solutions. And so, after a long introduction, we end with the acronym ASX. This is well known in Mitsubishi. A new car too. Not just like Mitsubishi, but like Captur. That’s right, from long-time partner Renault. This is called badge engineering in modern German. Sounds like label fraud?

And what about fuel and operating costs?

Our test application

Mitsubishi offers the ASX 1.3 Plus standard WLTP consumption of the 5.6 liter Super. He departs from this value in everyday life; We determined an average consumption of 6.9 liters, which results in a fuel cost of 11.87 euros per 100 km. The Mitsubishi used 5.5 liters in the eco mode, while it used 6.8 liters in the passenger mode. If the Mitsubishi was driven in sports mode, consumption increased to 8.7 liters. Fuel costs are calculated based on the current daily fuel price on our partner website mehr-tanken.de (15.12.2023 / Super: 1,72 Euro/L).

Monthly maintenance costs

Anyone who drives resource-efficiently as we do on our Eco route reduces fuel costs per 100 kilometers to 9.46 euros. Violent speed results in a total of 14.96 euros. Car tax for Mitsubishi costs 103 euros per year, liability insurance is 468 euros. Partial and comprehensive insurance costs an additional 252 and 767 euros respectively. Monthly maintenance costs of 287 euros are paid by anyone who drives a Mitsubishi 15,000 kilometers a year. If the mileage is doubled, the total increases to 511 euros. We leave the loss of value in this calculation.

This is how testing is done

The automotive and sports test uses consist of three usage trips with different weights. The so-called “passenger use” accounts for 70 percent. This is a journey from home to work that is on average 21 kilometers long. The economy driven period, approximately 275 kilometers long is counted as 15 percent. The remaining 15 percent goes to the driver group of sports. The length is roughly the same as the Eco route, but the route has a larger section of road and therefore a higher average speed. The basis for calculating fuel costs is always the price quoted on the “more fuel” website on the day the article was created.

Monthly maintenance costs include maintenance, wear parts and vehicle tax based on an assumed annual mileage of 15,000 and 30,000 kilometers without depreciation. The basis of the calculation is trial use, three-year holding period, no-claims class SF12 for liability and comprehensive insurance for Allianz, including discounts for garage parking and restrictions for certain drivers (not under 21 years). At Allianz, SF12 means a 34 percent discount for liability and 28 percent for comprehensive insurance.

In car and sports test use, the Mitsubishi ASX 1.3 Plus of 28,390 euros with 140 hp ended up with an average value of 6.9 super liters per 100 km. The cost of fuel for this distance is 11.87 euros. Monthly maintenance costs are 287 euros (15,000 km per year) or 511 euros (30,000 km per year).
