Refreshed 2025 Acura MDX Drops Touchscreen Trackpad


Acura’s best-selling model, the three-row MDX crossover is getting a mid-cycle refresh for the 2025 model year. While there are a few exterior updates, the big news comes inside where the unpopular precision trackpad has been ditched in favor of a touchscreen and functions. of Google.

The lower front fascia of the MDX has been revised to give it a sportier look than before. The grille has a redesigned diamond mesh compared to the 2024 model. A new A-Spec piece has been added that features a more visible fascia from the high-performance S Type without the additional sports equipment underneath. That includes the grille without the chrome trim surround. The Technology package’s 20-inch wheels and 21-inch units on the Type S have also been redesigned.

The top end S Type adds red Brembo 4-piston front brake calipers and a rear light diffuser along with quad exhaust pipes. The optional Advance package is now standard on the S Type including a new 31-speaker Bang & Olufsen audio system and a new AcuraWatch 360 driver assistance package.

The most noticeable changes to the MDX come inside the cabin. The unloved precision trackpad is being decommissioned to return to the touchscreen. The central display remains 12.3 diagonal, but has been moved closer to the edge of the dashboard, enabling easier access for the driver. The top A-Spec package and Type S also get a head-up display.

The app running on the screen is now Honda’s new Android Automotive implementation including Google Car Services. The system debuted on the latest Honda Accord and is gradually spreading across the Honda and Acura lineup. Navigation will be provided by Google Maps running directly on the system without the need to connect a phone, while Google Assistant will provide voice control functionality. Additional Android apps that are approved for in-car use can be downloaded from the Google Play Store after signing in to a Google account.

For those who want to use their smartphones, wireless Carplay and Android Auto are also available and a Qi wireless charging pad and USB-C ports are standard. The new AcuraWatch 360 driver assistance system features an updated front-facing camera and long-range radar behind the Acura badge on the grille as well as touch sensors on the steering wheel. There are also now short-range radars on all four corners to provide rear blind monitoring and front and rear cross traffic alert. An improved sensor package also enables lane change assist and lane change collision mitigation Other available features such as adaptive cruise control, lane keeping assist and collision mitigation prevention are also advanced.

The MDX’s powertrains carry over from 2024 models with the base and A-Spec retaining the standard 3.5-liter V6 while the S-Type gets a 355-hp 3.0-liter twin-turbo V6. Both engines are mated to a 10-speed automatic transmission and the Type S gets the best of all-wheel drive.
