‘Alfa Romeo could return to 2018 level in 2022’

Alfa Romeo team principal Frédéric Vasseur believes that his stable racing team can return to the level of 2018 in 2022. He hopes that Alfa Romeo can then appear in the middle row more often and also score more points than in the last two seasons.

Alfa Romeo had a tough time last year and this season too. In 2020 it reached only eight points, this season they are already doing better with eleven, but ninth place leaves much to be desired. Especially if you look at the 2018 and 2019 seasons, when the team can often be found in the middle range and get 48 and 57 points respectively. With the new rules for 2022, which should bring the field closer and make it easier to track cars, Alfa Romeo hopes to be able to return to that level.

“The last two seasons have been a bit difficult for us,” admits Alfa Romeo team principal Frédéric Vasseur. “In 2018 and 2019 we did better and we also need to return to the middle of the midfield. We need to get into Q3 more often and we know this is a good step forward. We have already completed the production of this car at the end of 2020 and this year we fully focused on the 2022 project,” said the head of the Alfa Romeo team.

Vasseur is confident that engine supplier Ferrari will also take a step forward. “I’m sure we can get back to the level of 2018,” said the Frenchman.
