Alfa Romeo is launching the Milano, its first electric SUV

The new Milano subcompact crossover marks Alfa Romeo’s entry into the electric era, although it is not planned for the American market.

The first step towards electrification

Alfa Romeo has introduced its first electric car, the Milano subcompact crossover. The model will be available with two single-engine, front-drive powertrains, producing either 154 or 237 horsepower. Meanwhile, the Milano will also be offered with a 134 horsepower three-cylinder hybrid engine, available in front or all-wheel drive versions. Alfa Romeo plans to sell only electric cars from 2027, and the Milano, which goes on sale in Europe this year, is an important forerunner of this strategy.

  • Two options for electric cars: 154 or 237 horses.
  • A hybrid version with 134 horsepower is also available.

Design with different characteristics

The Milano stands out for its style, being the most luxurious of the three European markets that share its platform, including the Jeep Avenger and the Fiat 600e. These sports versions have an athletic appearance with four-spoke wheels and a unique grille treatment that features the brand logo. A more modern look is also available with the traditional Alfa Romeo script on the triangular chrome grille and a new interpretation of the brand’s ‘dial’ rims.

  • Alfa Romeo-specific styling and features.
  • Driver-oriented interior with 10.3-inch screens.

Performance and technology

The electric version, Milano Elettrica, uses a single electric motor with a 54.0 kWh battery, available in two outputs: 154 and 237 horses. Alfa Romeo announces a range of 400 km on the European WLTP test circuit for the 154 horsepower model. Charging the battery from 10 to 80% can be done in less than 30 minutes with a 100 kW DC fast charger.

  • Respectable battery life and fast charging.
  • Front-wheel drive versions for all electric motors.

A flexible hybrid approach

A hybrid version, the Milano Ibrida, is offered with front- or all-wheel drive. It combines a 1.2-liter three-cylinder turbo engine with a 28-horsepower electric motor connected to a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. A 48-volt lithium-ion battery provides power, and the total output reaches 134 horsepower. In urban areas, Alfa Romeo claims that the Milano Ibrida will operate in electric mode more than 50% of the time.

  • Front and all-wheel drive options for hybrids.
  • The leading electric way in urban driving.

The European launch of Alfa Romeo Milano marks an important moment for the brand, which combines traditional Italian design with modern technologies. Although the US market will have to wait for Alfa Romeo’s electric model, the Milano sets a promising example for the future of the brand’s electric vehicles.
