Alfa Romeo prepares a large electric SUV for 2028

Before the end of this decade, Alfa Romeo plans to build a large electric SUV similar in size to the bmw ix. At least that’s what the British motoring magazine points out. auto express after an interview with Alfa CEO Jean-Philippe Imparato.

The future flagship of Alfa Romeo

Imparato told the British publication that sometime in 2027, the brand will present a new electric sedan designed for the North American market. It will be in the same size category as the Audi A6 and BMW 5 Series.so it will be bigger than the next Electric Giulia which will arrive in 2025.

Following the debut of the full-size sedan, Imparato mentioned the introduction of a “specific model in 2028”. AE believes this is a large electric SUV that will be Alfa’s future flagship, which makes sense considering the company has previously discussed building larger SUVs. and smaller to surround the current Stelvio. So far, the company has only presented the Alfa Romeo Tonale that we already have established in the market.

Another member born with the STLA Large platform

The main rumor is that both the sedan and large electric SUV being planned by Alfa will be based on Stellantis’ STLA Large platform. It’s the same one that will power the Giulia EV, which offers an 800-volt electrical architecture with fast-charging capability.

Regarding the future largest sedan, Imparato said that 80 percent of its battery can be recharged in 18 minutes and aspire to more than 640 km of autonomy.. He also said Alfa’s current design language is set to 2027, so it includes the sedan but not the SUV in its time slot.

While the article does include a rendering of what it thinks Alfa’s future flagship could look like, we’ll likely have to wait a while until we can officially see this large SUV. For now, we’ll just have to use what we know about the Italian manufacturer’s current aesthetic to fuel our imaginations.
