New Alfa Romeo Junior: Comes as EV and hybrid: from 35,000 euros

Last week Alfa Romeo presented its long-awaited breakthrough; new Milano Junior should give the brand a big boost. Until today, the new model was called Milano, but the Italian government unexpectedly stopped that. The car is produced in Poland and the law prohibits the use of Italian names for foreign products. As a result, Alfa Romeo chose the eggs for their money and immediately transforms the Milano into: Junior!

The Junior is a compact crossover that will compete with the Peugeot 2008, Jeep Avenger, Kia Niro, and Volvo EX30. The fact that the Junior is sold as both an EV and a hybrid is a big plus; This means there is a lot to choose from and brands serve many target groups.

The electronic variant has the familiar driver we know from other Stellantis models. A 54 kWh battery pack and a 156 hp electric motor should enable a range of 410 km. Fast charging is also possible, with a maximum of 100 kW.

The top version of the EV variant is the Veloce, with 240 hp, a mechanical limited slip differential and sports suspension. Alfa promises driving characteristics that match the brand’s DNA.

Four wheels

For oil lovers, the Italians also offer the Junior as a sub-hybrid; 1.2 liter three cylinder, with 136 hp and ONE six-speed automatic transmission. The ‘hybrid’ variant is also available with four-wheel drive, which makes us curious. Off road with Alfa? Who knows.

What sets Junior apart from his Stellantis brothers and sisters? In any case, Alfa has a step forward with interior space: The luggage compartment is 400 liters, which is more than, for example, Jeep Avenger or Opel Mokka.

Location of your charging cable

The dashboard is quite conservatively designed, but tailored to the driver, to show that it’s all about you, the Alfa driver. Small details such as the fan grilles with the familiar logo in the center should create an authentic Alfa Romeo feel. Convenient: There’s a place to keep your charging cable under the hood, so you no longer have to wind it up in the car. Just clever, another brand would say.

Jean-Philippe Imperato, CEO of Alfa Romeo promised during the presentation of his new creation says that the starting price for Junior in Europe will be around 30,000 euros.

Dutch prices are low, for a reason BPM reason, always higher: For the ‘hybrid’ variant, prices start from 35,000 euros, Stellantis Netherlands expects. The electric variant will cost around 40,000 euros. The Alfa Romeo Junior will be in Dutch showrooms from September.
