Ferrari, launched the E-Cells Lab in collaboration with UniBo and NXP

MARANELLO (MODENA) – E-Cells Lab, a research center in the electrochemical field within the University of Bologna, was inaugurated today. The laboratory, which was created under the scientific direction of the University, aims to increase the knowledge of materials and the chemical and physical properties of lithium cells. It is an important contribution to electronic research, thanks to the collaboration with Alma Mater where a space with advanced equipment to perform advanced analysis was created. The Maranello company promoted and supported the laboratory also through the exchange of knowledge with the University, in the belief of the great value that the project has for the region and for the automotive industry in particular. The programs developed in the E-Cells Lab will be shared with leading electronics company NXP, a technological partner and supporter of the project. Cooperation between different entities, which in the future may open new companies, will be very important for expanding the scope and value of research activities. The laboratory is made up of two areas: the first dedicated to the preparation of electronic devices, the second dedicated to the analysis, testing and characterization of the materials themselves. Particular attention will be paid to the topic of solid state, fast charging, heat dissipation, safety and cell performance. The results obtained will be important for Ferrari in the development of a common language with its cell suppliers, in order to increase the efficiency of the batteries that will be assembled in the Maranello factories. “E-Cell Lab represents an exciting start and, at the same time, is the result of our traditional commitment to education and research. The project also shows the importance that the comparison between the academic and business worlds has had for us.” , announced Benedetto Vigna, CEO of Ferrari. “From this comparison, a laboratory was born today that will make an important contribution to studies in the field of electrochemistry, generate innovation in our district and build the knowledge of the future”. “I am delighted that Ferrari has chosen Alma Mater for this important project in the name of scientific innovation and education. I am sure that the collaboration will be fruitful and announce important results. Many specific dimensions for Alma Mater find their synthesis in this agreement: the desire to be linear always at the forefront, in teaching and research; dialogue with important public and private bodies in the country; of our common development” commented Giovanni Molari, Rector of the University of Bologna. “The close collaboration between industry and academia allows us to significantly accelerate research into safe, efficient and sustainable battery innovation,” said Jens Hinrichsen, EVP and GM of Advanced Analog at NXP. “Thanks to the joint efforts of NXP, Ferrari and the University of Bologna, we hope to set new benchmarks in performance and sustainability, in order to achieve our shared goal of a clean and bright future.” photo: Ferrari press office. tvi/com 08-Apr-24 11:29
