Apple is launching a black MacBook Pro with a 128GB RAM option and a new entry-level model

Apple is giving the MacBook Pro a speed boost with new M3 chips and adding black to the options list for the first time.

During Apple’s ‘Frighteningly Fast’ event, the announcement of new Apple M3 chips was accompanied by an update to the MacBook Pro and new iMac models. The design remains the same as the previous generation, but for the first time there is a black option to choose from. The old ‘grey space’ is replaced by ‘black space’. According to Apple, the new color will be less sensitive to fingerprints.

The new models can now be configured with the Apple M3 Pro and M3 Max chips and for the first time you can add up to 128 GB of RAM to the MacBook Pro. The new M3 chips are the first computer chips to be baked at 3 nanometers.

Apple M3 with more powerful GPU

The most significant performance gains can be found in the integrated GPU with new features that gamers will appreciate such as hardware accelerated mesh rendering. Performance should also be higher thanks to ‘Dynamic Caching’, a feature where the GPU uses only the correct amount of internal memory in real time for each task.

The 3 nanometer process reduction is also accompanied by a more economical consumption profile. According to Apple, the 16-inch MacBook Pro can stay alive for up to 22 hours.

Other than that, nothing changes internally or externally compared to the previous version of the MacBook Pro with M2 chips on board. The only thing that gets a slight upgrade is the miniLED screen, which now has a maximum screen brightness of 600 nits, 20 percent more than before.

The new entry-level model of the MacBook Pro

With the update of the MacBook Pro series, Apple adds a new 14-inch core model with the Apple M3 chip that replaces the current 13-inch model. It also benefits from the same miniLED screen and other advantages.

The base model only gets 8 GB of RAM and removes the touch bar. Unfortunately, the price of entry is rising rapidly. Where previously you could get a MacBook Pro with a 13-inch model from 1,619 euros, the suggested retail price for the new 14-inch model is now 2,029 euros with 512 GB of storage. Upgrading to 1 TB will cost you 230 euros more. Both will be available from November 7.
