Two-cylinder enduro and supermoto from GASGAS / Product

Until now, the Pierer Group had only produced enduros and supermotos with single-cylinder engines. Now the two-cylinder enduro and supermoto 790 is apparently being developed for GASGAS – for 2025.

Our photographer was surprised when, in anticipation of the new KTM model, a previously unknown enduro, close to production with a two-cylinder engine drove in front of his lens on a test track regularly used by KTM engineers. A little later, a corresponding version of the supermoto also appeared during coordination and comparison trips.

The model surprised us in that it has CFMoto cues – not least the 800NK-style headlight. However, according to recent evidence, this is the GASGAS ES800 and its sister supermoto SM800.

Recently, the Spanish off-road brand sold the ES700 and SM700 as street models, modified versions of KTM’s 690 Enduro and SMC. This move has since been criticized internally as it led to unnecessary competition within the company.

With the introduction of future model generations of enduros and supermotos, this should be corrected by making the models of the three brands KTM, Husqvarna and GASGAS more diverse in the future. In the Enduro and Supermoto segment, KTM maintains the single cylinder 690 Enduro and SMC and also has sister models based on the future 390 Adventure.

The GASGAS ES700 and SM700 themselves will be replaced for the 2025 season by the models shown here, which are powered by two-cylinder inline engines: the ES800 is an enduro that is apparently derived from the KTM 790 Adventure and therefore has the number. parallel to it. The first thing you notice is the engine, frame, WP suspension fork and shock absorber, brakes and swingarm, all of which are taken from the Austrian sister.

Unlike its parts supplier, GASGAS uses a standard tank solution. This means that there are no tank bags on either side that are pulled down by the driver’s feet. This should mean that the tank volume will be much lower than on the Adventure 790. A situation that is not very important in this segment.

The structure was completely redesigned by KTM’s Kiska house and yard design studio and parts of it already look very final. However, we have not yet been able to fully clarify if the CFMoto-style headlight mask that can be seen here will be used later, but it is doubtful.

However, the ergonomics, the seat, the design of the rear silencer and other details are obviously ready for series production. The small disk like wind block seems to be still being modified, but its dimensions already give an accurate idea of the finished part. During development rides for Enduro, development engineers were often seen doing comparison rides with Ducati’s DesertX and Yamaha’s Ténéré 700. These should be used as a reference in basic values such as handling, ride comfort, off-road capability, wind protection and range.

The second model in this series is also working on a supermoto version, which will probably be sold as the SM800 and which combines all the characteristics of an enduro with a 17-inch front wheel, a suitable chassis and engine tuning, modified. seat and wind protection more economical.

Both models will share a 799 cc inline twin, which should also produce exactly 95 hp, so the possibility of A2-compatible versions is kept open. The Supermoto is likely to be slightly cheaper and will probably be the cheapest offering with the 790 twin within the Pierer Group.

This is also in line with the future direction of the original Spanish brand GASGAS: its road models should be aimed at younger customers and should therefore be positioned accordingly in terms of price, but without coming too far in the way of its sister KTM.

In the medium term, the range of the Spaniard’s model will be expanded even further: to a sports tourer as a supermoto that is powered by a 947 cc displacement version of the twin LC8c from the 990 Duke. The street models will likely all be supplied by collaboration partner CFMoto and are expected at dealers in the fall of 2025. Prices are still speculative, but there is likely to be a significant increase compared to the single-cylinder ES700 and SM700.
