Assen, FP3: Nicolo Bulega (Ducati) walked on water / Superbike World Championship

The Superbike pilots used the third free practice session in Assen to prepare for a rainy Saturday. World Championship leader Nicolo Bulega took second place Toprak Razgatlioglu by 1.388 seconds!

Friday in Assen was a mix of cloudy weather with brief periods of sunshine. Each practice and qualifying session was held either in mixed conditions or on a wet track.

Rain will also be a constant friend at the TT Circuit on Saturday, which means that the third 20-minute free practice session from 9 am was even more important for the Superbike pilots as it took place on a wet track.

On Friday, world champion Alvaro Bautista (Aruba.it Ducati) was the fastest, followed in the time tables from FP1 and FP2 by Toprak Razgatlioglu (ROKiT BMW) and Remy Gardner (GRT Yamaha). A best time of 1:35.473 minutes was achieved on a nearly dry track.

For comparison: The fastest lap in Assen was set by Alvaro Bautista (Ducati) in the 2022 race at 1:33.620 minutes, the pole record set by Toprak Razgatlioglu (Yamaha) started the same year and is 1:32.934 minutes .

The riders in FP3 were far from achieving such times; Nicolo Bulega took first place with a time of 1:44.274 minutes. The Supersport champion’s lead is impressive; he took second place Razgatlioglu by 1.388 seconds. Alex Lowes (Kawasaki), Garrett Gerloff (Bonovo BMW) and rain specialist Tarran Mackenzie from the Petronas Honda team followed.

Bautista (+2.196 sec) took eighth place, Johnny Rea (+2.497) twelfth, Switzerland’s Dominique Aegerter 16th and Germany’s only participant Philipp Öttl 18th.
