Already qualifying for the Chinese Grand Prix may have other changes. Aston Martin has protested against the results. This is based on a document published by the FIA, the world’s governing body of athletes.

The team of two-time world champion Fernando Alonso refers to article 39.6 of the sports regulations. It says: “Any driver whose car stops on the track during qualifying or sprints is no longer allowed to participate in this session.”

Formula 1: Did Ferrari driver Sainz break the rules?

The British racing team may be referring to Ferrari driver Carlos Sainz. The Spaniard lost control of his car in Q2, went off the track and hit the side of the road barrier. There was a red flag at the time, but Sainz was able to continue driving and finished seventh.

Now the question arises how standing still on the track is interpreted in the rules and whether a short stop like Sainz’s is enough to be separated from another session.

It is currently unclear whether the protest will be accepted. Those involved with both teams were called to a meeting at 12 pm German time.

Fernando Alonso secured a strong third place in qualifying, while teammate Lance Stroll finished eleventh.
