IMSA – The Lizards return to Long Beach with Aston Martin

Flying Lizard Motorsports will return to the IMSA Championship at the Long Beach Grand Prix on Saturday, April 20. Elias Sabo and Andy Lee will drive the #28 Aston Martin Vantage GT3 in the GTD division at the California road circuit.

Originally from Long Beach, California, Elias Sabo has long wanted to compete in IMSA in front of his home crowd. Sponsored by 5.11 Tactical, the new #28 Aston Martin will be painted orange and black, sporting the same livery as the car entered in the GT World Challenge America series.

“I am very happy to participate in the Long Beach Grand Prix this year”said Sabo, who lives in Newport Beach. “This race is on my home circuit. It’s great to be able to compete in front of the number of friends and family that will be attending. Andy and I had originally signed up for the race in 2020, but it was canceled due to Covid. Now, four years later , we have a chance to participate in a competition that is on the list of my dreams. »

🇬🇧 Flying Lizard Makes Long-Awaited Return to IMSA at Long Beach Grand Prix

This unique return to IMSA is an important moment for Flying Lizard Motorsports, which is celebrating its 20th anniversary. The team, which has won 24 sports car titles, began racing in the American Le Mans Series in 2004, attracting attention with its red and silver livery, which was reserved for Porsches for the first ten years. Originally based in Sonoma, California, the team received factory support in 2007, in partnership with Porsche Motorsport North America, for six years.

The legendary duo of Jörg Bergmeister and Patrick Long have been synonymous with Flying Lizard, as have other famous names such as Johannes van Overbeek, Wolf Henzler, Patrick Pilet, Richard Lietz, Nick Tandy and Mike Rockenfeller, to name a few. During its eleven full and two partial seasons in IMSA, the team won six championships, 69 podiums and 25 race wins. The team has represented the American Le Mans Series at the 24 Hours of Le Mans eight times, achieving three steps up to the top five.

In 2014, the Lizards became a competitive client team after owner and founder Seth Neiman sold the team to the Lizards for Darren Law, Thomas Blam and Tommy Sadler. Over the years, the team expanded to racing for Audi, Aston Martin, Bentley, Lamborghini, Nissan and McLaren across North America and Europe, winning an additional 18 championships and boasting a record 140 wins today.
