Aston Martin team principal: Vettel will be the architect of future success

The world of Formula 1 has had to accept today the announcement of the farewell of Sebastian Vettels. The four-time champion will pack up after this season and focus on fatherhood first. Aston Martin team principal Mike Krack believes Vettel’s career will be crucial to Aston Martin’s future success.

Vettel reveals on the Aston Martin F1 website that his decision to retire from Formula 1 was a difficult one and he hopes his expertise, skills and experience will be valuable to Aston Martin. “The decision to retire has been difficult. I have thought a lot, at the end of the year I want to start thinking more about what I will focus on. I hope that the work I have done now and last year is important for the development of the team that will win in the future. I will do my best for you (Aston Martin) for the remaining ten races as usual.”

Aston Martin F1 owner Lawrence Stroll is saddened that Vettel has turned down the option to extend his contract with the team, but is pleased with the calm and openness of Vettel’s farewell. “We have made it clear that we want to continue with him next year, but in the end he has done what he thinks is best for him and his family. Of course we respect that.”

Optimistic team principal Mike Krack knows the team will miss Vettel’s qualities, but his hard work will lay the foundation for Aston Martin’s future success in Formula 1: “Sebastian is a very good racer – fast, intelligent and strategic – I’m sure we will miss him. Fortunately, we all learned a lot from him and the knowledge we gain will help our team for a very long time. When we are fully competitive – and we will be – Sebastian will be one of the architects of our future success.
