The new Audi S3 Quattro Sedan test: The art of versatility

Concept Audi S3 Quattro sedans

In the modern fleet of electric cars, it is not uncommon to see cars with amazing figures, often exceeding 1000 hp. The Audi S3 does not really fit in this model as it is “only” equipped with a 2.0 l TFSI boosted to 333 horses and 420 Nm of torque. That’s 23 horses and 20 Nm more than the previous generation. But what a pleasure to find yourself behind the wheel of a comfortable car, well finished and, above all, very efficient. Visually, the Audi S3 is smart. Sure, the front bumper is reminiscent of the last-generation sultry RS3, but this aesthetic change applies to the entire new A3 range. Aside from the dedicated rims and modified rocker panels, it takes a keen eye to spot the S3. Even more so with the disappearance of the badge on the front of the car. But when the ignition is turned on, you quickly understand that the S3 has more to offer than the “regular” A3, especially with the (optional) 4-piece Akrapovic exhaust.

Values Audi S3 Quattro sedans

When testing the S3 model, we noted several improvements in terms of driving pleasure. This finished version only confirms our first (good) impressions. The choice of Audi engineers to adopt Torque Divisionan intelligent torque converter system, which is also present in the Golf R 333, allows you to turn a turn with a grip disappointing. And this, even in wet conditions as it was during our test in Munich. But if you want to play more with your S3, you can switch to “Dynamic” mode This will not only disable the ESP but will encourage the Torque Divider to accelerate the outside wheel when cornering to facilitate traction. It is enough to give a very good impression. Especially since with the power of the S3 together with the efficiency of the 7-speed S Tronic gearbox, which has been improved compared to the previous generation, 0 to 100 km / h is achieved in just 4, 7 sec.

On board, you feel good. In fact, the Audi S3 is more stable than the A3 but it remains a very practical car that is appreciated during periods of power on winding roads and during everyday use. And that’s where the rest of this car is. Unfortunately, we see that onboard technologies, although useful, are sometimes too invasive. The dashboard and middle screen are full of information, so it’s sometimes difficult to find the function you’re looking for.

Decision Audi S3 Quattro sedans

Audi S3 will definitely attract fans of hot chicks, even more so in the heat. Unfortunately its price, counting at least €55,600, immediately makes it less attractive. Although, to be honest, we expected more. In comparison, the Honda Civic Type R starts at €60,000. Sure, it’s a more efficient car, but Audi S3 buyers probably won’t be looking to set lap times. Instead they will be looking for a high-quality, versatile and high-performance car, everything that this new S3 represents in a nutshell.
