Will the second time be right? He hopes so Audi together with R8 in an electronic version. The first version, which started in 2015, did not have the desired effect, but the idea of creating a third generation persists. Indeed, it is more stable than before, as revealed by the head of the technical division, Oliver Hoffman. In an interview with Autocar, the chief executive of the Ingolstadt company suggests that work has already begun along the lines. However, it is too early to talk about the release date, considering the many issues to be addressed. In collaboration with the fashion center, engineers will be tasked with solving key issues previously reported.
Audi R8: the electric super sports car tries again
Since it is the market that determines the quality of the model, in the case of the first zero Audi R8 it is fair to talk about a flop. Total registrations registered did not even reach 100 units, a sign of clear disinterest on the part of the operators. Then, the designers created a concept, the Audi E-Tron PB18, which was shown in 2018 and has never been taken to series production. Perhaps they preferred to leave it alone also due to the poor supply of drinks.
The pace of deployment of battery-powered vehicles is, in fact, progressing at a different pace in Europe and around the world. If we talk about the Old Continent, Italy is, for example, one of those countries where it has received little appeal so far. Even the incentives provided by the Government could not prevent the situation.
On the other hand, in Norway and, in general, in the Scandinavian region, the success of nutrition is in front of our eyes. However, we believe that the release in Italy should be considered for the future Audi R8, due to the weakness of our peninsula towards luxury. Risking the list price or the arrival date in the business remains early. Time will tell us the desired answers, for now let’s enjoy Hoffman’s statements. Nani showed that he is not afraid to reveal the cards, without, however, dwelling on the details.
We hope to get more clarification in the coming months. At the same time, he explained that the adopted platform will be the SSP, produced by the Volkswagen group. Even without giving details, the desire to keep production costs and, therefore, the list price under control appears. Ad hoc will arise from the platform, designed to improve performance. We don’t know if the final approval came from the new CEO Gernot Dollner (in office since September 1), but there is definitely a will to make everything happen.
