The extreme Ford Mustang GTD will be sold in Europe

On the occasion of the 60th anniversary of the Mustang, Ford is preparing to present the terms of sale, in limited numbers, of the Mustang GTD.

So Ford confirms the upcoming arrival in Europe of the craziest Mustang ever produced, the Mustang GTD. Certified for the road, this race car is equipped with the latest technology.

Deep in a garage hidden behind a wind tunnel in Allen Park, Michigan, a few members gathered in 2021 for a new mission, which on paper seemed like an impossible dream: to design a Mustang capable of competing with the best European sports cars. . The result is a limited edition Ford Mustang GTD, high performance, road legal, and true Mustang spirit. Designed and developed in partnership between Ford and Multimatic, which developed the Mustang GT3, Mustang GT4 and the Ford GT, which won Le Mans in 2016, the Mustang GTD represents the culmination of decades of technical development from constant learning during racing.

The Mustang GTD takes advantage of the extensive use of carbon fiber body panels to reduce weight, lower the center of gravity and improve responsiveness. The fenders, hood, hood that replaces the trunk lid, door sills, front splitter, rear diffuser and roof are all made of carbon fiber, along with the optional carbon fiber front and rear bumpers.

Underneath all that carbon beats the heart of the beast, a supercharged 5.2-liter V8 with a top rev of 7,500 rpm. It’s enough to deliver a unique note through the titanium active valve exhaust system available as an option. This is the most powerful off-road Mustang ever made by Ford. Power is transmitted from the engine to the rear wheels via a carbon fiber shaft connected to an eight-speed gearbox with a 50/50 front-to-rear weight distribution.

The whole thing comes from 325mm-wide front tires, as wide as the Ford GT’s rear tires, and 345mm rear tires, mounted on 20-inch forged magnesium rims.

Spectators at the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans, on June 15 and 16, will be able to see the Mustang GTD in action and witness the Mustang GT3’s participation in the ultimate endurance event. Registration for Mustang GTD orders should open this summer at a price in excess of 300,000 euros.
