Manfred Döss becomes the new chairman of the board of management at the car manufacturer Audi. The lawyer was chosen to succeed Herbert Diess on Thursday and will take up the position immediately, Audi AG said. Döss has been on the management board of the VW subsidiary since the beginning of September.

Diess resigned as CEO of Volkswagen on September 1. According to company sources, the 63-year-old is to remain as a consultant at Volkswagen.

The new head of the management board comes from the ranks of the Volkswagen Group: Döss moved to Porsche in 2013 and became a board member there in 2016. In the same year he took the position of chief legal officer at VW. In February this year, Döss moved to the position of Member of the Board of Ethics and Legal Affairs at VW.
