Citroen was supposed to build a large road network in Poland before the war French.pl

Andre Citroën was not only a company owner, businessman, engineer, but also a visionary. Evidence of his unusual way of thinking is sometimes a small detail in the Polish press before the war, which shows that he thought far beyond his modern times and wanted to develop the automobile industry in every possible way.

The biggest problem in pre-war Poland were the roads, or rather the lack of them. There were few real, well-maintained roads, which meant that cars didn’t sell as well as they could have. Today we would say it is a lack of infrastructure. And Andre Citroën found a solution to the lack of asphalt. It’s hard to believe, isn’t it?

On October 28, 1931, in the daily newspaper Rzeczpospolita we can find a small detail about the great plan of the famous French industrialist.

“A large foreign corporation wants to finance the construction of roads in Poland

“General Motors”, “Chrysler” and “Hudson Motors” accepted the proposal of two large car companies in England and France, i.e. Austin and Citroen, to establish a large organization of road construction in Eastern Europe in order. to increase its marketing potential. Especially in Poland, Romania and the Balkan Peninsula, the consortium intends to finance the construction of these roads, ensuring the return of the invested capital by taxing these means of communication,” we read in the daily newspaper.
