This is how the ID.4 competitor is coming to Europe

In the first half of 2024, the Chinese car manufacturer Chery Automobile plans to bring its first electric car to the German market: the Omoda 5 EV. We have already looked at the offensive of European manufacturers and why they want to start with three brands at once. We were already able to test drive one of Chery’s first cars, the Omoda E5, on site in Wuhu. In Europe the electric car is known as Omoda 5 EV.

Chery is adopting the same dynamic powertrain strategy as BMW for two of its brands, including Omoda. In Germany, where both combustion engines and electric vehicles are in high demand, the company intends to offer both types of vehicles. The Omoda 5, the first model in the Omoda series in Germany, will be available with a gasoline engine from spring 2024. The fully electric Omoda 5 EV is scheduled to be launched in the second quarter of 2024.

The E-SUV comes as “Smart Private Car” so. The electric car aims to appeal especially to young drivers. If you look at the dimensions, the E-SUV is 1590 mm long, 1830 mm wide and 4400 mm long. Stromer wheelbase is given as 2630 mm. With the rear seats in place, luggage compartment volume is 378 liters and with the rear seats folded 1075 liters. Dimensions should be the same for the combustion engine and electric versions.

The electric car has a 150 kW electric motor that drives the front wheels with 350 Nm of torque. It runs from 0 to 100 km / h in 7.8 seconds. Customers can choose between two battery sizes: a 41 kWh battery enabling a range of 300 km and a larger 62 kWh battery up to 450 km. The battery cells are supplied by industry leading manufacturer CATL. When it comes to charging times, we are talking about 35 minutes from 10 to 80 percent of battery capacity – with a maximum charging speed of 110 kW. Given the current market environment, this could be improved, but this does not seem likely due to the chosen architecture.

The starting price is said to be around 37,000 euros. In comparison, the VW ID.4 Pure is currently very cheap at 32,600 euros. The Hyundai Kona Electric can also be compared to the Omoda 5 EV and its price is 41,990 euros.
