“Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart bad investments”

Fiat Chrysler Automobiles CEO Sergio Marchionne is a man after our own hearts. No PR talk, just tell it like it is. Because the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart… those are the worst investments FCA has ever made, according to him.

He said this during a press conference at the Detroit auto show. “I can tell you that the Chrysler 200 and Dodge Dart, as good as they were, were FCA’s worst performing models in the last eight years. I don’t know of any investment that has been worse for us. With his bold statements, Marchionne is probably referring to the disappointing sedan market small in the U.S. Consumers are increasingly choosing crossovers or SUVs in the small segment.

Chrysler and Dodge discontinued the 200 and Dart last year due to disappointing sales. Both models sit on a modified Alfa Romeo Giulietta platform. Marchionne had little to say about the 200 at the start of last year. He felt that the rear entry was not wide enough and accused Chrysler designers of “copying Hyundai, which had the same problem (with the entry – RS)”. So Marchionne called the designers “yucks”. 200 was built in just two and a half years.
