Then it seems that the government is paying attention to the memories of Mahatma Gandhi because the birth house in Porbandar, where Mahatma Gandhi was born, has become dilapidated and instead of renovating the place, the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), which has been managing it for a long time, ) locked in it.

On the other hand, under the ‘Gandhi Ashram Memorial and Precinct Development’ project of Ahmedabad-based Sabarmati Ashram, where Bapu led many movements including freedom and serving the country with his works, the government has allocated approximately Rs. Renovation at a cost of 1200 crores! Therefore, the government and ASI are ignoring Gandhiji’s birthplace and giving more priority to his place of work.

Bapu’s birthplace in Porbandar receives an average of 400 to 500 visitors every day. On the contrary, this figure has increased to three thousand in Sabarmati Ashram. The surprising thing is that this building has not been renovated even though the amount which is slightly less than the cost of renovation of the house where Gandhi was born was left unused by the department in charge last year. Gandhi’s Birth Memorial in Porbandar is managed by the Kirti Mandir Management Committee while the nearby birth place is managed by the ASI. A memorial has been made by placing a statue of Gandhiji outside the British Parliament, a British country. There are a total of 42 Gandhiji memorials outside India, but due to the gross negligence of ASI in India, the plight of Gandhiji’s birthplace in Porbandar has been appalling.

After the independence of the country, it was decided to build a monument near the place where Gandhi was born in Porbandar and a beautiful birth monument was built near the house where Gandhi was born. Which is called Kirtimandir. A Kirtimandir Management Committee has also been formed for the management of this Kirtimandir. Who also manages the Kirti Mandir beautifully. But it happened that the birth memorial which is built near the legendary house where Gandhiji was born, the house was preserved as his. Not only this, it is also managed by ASI.

The upper part of Gandhiji’s birth house, which is managed by the ASI, has fallen into disrepair for the past two-and-a-half years. No repair work is done except to put the lock and the work board in it. Due to this, tourists coming from home and abroad can now only see the basement of this building. Surprisingly, the Rajkot circle of the ASI department, which manages this building, has been given Rs 3.15 crore by the government to the ASI in the year 2020-21 and Rs. 2.5 million and in the year 2022-23 Sh. A grant of 3.48 crores has been earmarked for the renovation of the cemetery. Of that not a single rupee has been spent by this department for the renovation of this Gandhi Birthplace Memorial. According to the estimate made by ASI, for the renovation of Birthplace of Gandhi Bhavan in Porbandar, Rs. 47 lakhs are estimated to be used. The surprising thing is that in the year 2021-22, the Rajkot circle of the department of Rs. Although the grant of 40 lakhs lapsed unused, the Birthplace of Gandhi Bhavan was not repaired.
