The merger between automakers Fiat-Chrysler and PSA Peugeot will undoubtedly continue. Shareholders have approved the merger. The merged company will be called ‘Stellantis’ and will be the fourth largest car company in the world, after Volkswagen, Toyota and Renault-Nissan.

The merging partners previously announced that they will establish their headquarters in Amsterdam. Fiat-Chrysler is already here legally. The European Commission already gave approval for the merger last month.

The new group will bring 14 brands under one roof, including Peugeot, Citroën, Fiat, Jeep, Dodge, Maserati and Alfa Romeo, all names that have played a major role in the automotive industry in France, Italy and the United States.

But it is certain that not all products will survive. The car industry is facing the corona epidemic and needs a big investment to achieve the transition to electric cars. PSA said last week that it will announce which brands will continue to exist after the merger is completed.

The combined company can produce 8.7 million vehicles per year. The merger should result in annual savings of 5 billion euros. According to analysts, the money is much needed to build electric trains. In this area, the new group is behind competitors such as Volkswagen and Toyota.
