The new Dodge Charger is finally here, the only thing missing is its V8!

After keeping everyone wondering for more than 2 years with its concept, Dodge has finally decided to officially present its new Charger. The brand is sticking to its plans and is not renewing the V8. Instead, customers will have a choice between two 100% electric versions, as well as a heated version that will arrive next year. Prices have not yet been announced but, in any case, it remains unclear if this 2.0 muscle car will make it to European soil.

It was a very special, anxious wait. When a popular car like the Dodge Charger is updated, the room for error must be controlled more than other models. We knew it, the time had come for America’s muscle car to replace the V8 with a battery. Now complete, Dodge has presented a new generation of its Charger that completely changes the formula, aesthetically and technically.

Let’s start with what is visible. The first major novel, this new version also takes over from the Challenger, as it is offered as a 4-door sedan and coupe. So the two models come together, under the name Charger. The car takes the look already seen in the concept and resembles a model from the 70s, with very straight lines. Electricity requires, aerodynamics plays a major role in efficiency. That’s why the shapes read, for example with the air intake that connects the front shield and the hood. The signature of the passing light, front and back, allows the machine to sit even further by giving the impression of increased width.

So, instead of a coupe or a sedan?

That’s great, but wouldn’t it be even better with a V8?

Inside, the atmosphere is very sporty with a two-spoke steering wheel. The Charger has a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster on the base version, compared to 16 inches on the more powerful electric version. There is also a 12.3-inch central screen for the multimedia section, which allows you to connect smartphones via Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. The car is also equipped with a head-up display.

Without doing much, the interior is modern and offers pride of place for sports

At launch, the Charger will be provided as 100% power only. Two versions will be available: the first gives 496 horsepower, the second increases this figure to 630 horsepower, or even 670 for 15 seconds thanks to the Power Shot function. Both are based on Stellantis’ new STLA-Large platform, which will later be used for new models at Maserati and Alfa Romeo. They carry a large 100.5 kW battery which drives the electric motors and which allows a range of between 418 and 510 km, depending on the version. In terms of performance, Dodge claims a 0 to 100 km/h time of 3.3 seconds for the most powerful, despite weighing more than 2.6 tons!

Of course, the driver will be able to switch between different driving modes depending on whether he wants to increase efficiency or performance. Music lovers should be happy to know that the car has a sound generator that can produce up to 126 decibels, as in the previous concept. It is not yet known if the Charger will be sold in France. Production should begin in mid-2024 for the coupe and early 2025 for the sedan version. Next year, Dodge will also add a hot version, called the SixPack and featuring an inline 6 cylinder. With V8, on the other hand, we will be able to make decisions…
