Danilo Petrucci released: He now works in the World Rally Championship / Superbike

On April 11, Danilo Petrucci broke several bones and lost three teeth during motocross training. The Ducati rider wants to return to the World Superbike Championship in Misano in mid-June.

Danilo Petrucci’s tragic accident happened on April 11 at the Cingoli motocross track. “It was one of the scariest falls of my life,” the Italian said. “A few teeth have fallen out and the jaw is broken in two; “There were also fractures of the collarbone and shoulder blade as well as skin bruises.”

The doctors initially focused on the 33-year-old’s double broken jaw, which was repaired by inserting several metal plates. The right fractured shoulder blade was operated on and stabilized. Petrucci will have to wait a while for dentures.

Now he has been allowed to leave the hospital in Ancona and addressed his fans via Instagram and video. “I’m fine, as you can see the jaw was hit badly,” said Danilo. “Unfortunately it also cut the nerve in my jaw, and I will be laughing with my mouth crooked for the next few days. I am very happy to be here. I am alive – when I fell, I did not think I would be able to tell this story. I am grateful to the doctors at the Torrette Hospital in Ancona.”

“I was very hurt,” insisted Petrucci. “It’s going to take time to recover. I guess we’ll see you Misano. I can’t eat, so maybe for the first time in my life I’m losing weight because I can only drink drinks. Thanks to everyone who wrote to me – thank you, thank you again.”

At the Assen race next weekend, Italian Nicholas Spinelli will stand in for Petrucci in the Barni Spark Ducati team. The 22-year-old is a two-time Italian Moto3 champion (2017, 2019) and won the national Supersport series with Barni Ducati.

After Assen there is a break of around eight weeks until the World Superbike Championship resumes at Misano in mid-June.
