A few days ago, Bentley Systems launched two short documentaries produced by BBC Storyworks as part of the “Beneath the Surface” series. They show how digital developments affect engineering and operations to ensure water supply.

<p>The new film series “Beneath the Surface” explores the biggest challenges of water.  At the same time, the documents describe the most important innovations and solutions implemented worldwide to protect this important resource for the future. </p>
<p>Two short articles prepared for Bentley show how digital advances are affecting engineering and operations to ensure water availability.  They will also be on display at the Water Association’s World Water Congress in Copenhagen;  The event takes place September 11-15. </p>
<p>• The first document shows the water and sewage company <strong>Águas e Energy for Porto</strong> in Porto, Portugal.  With thousands of sensors installed along waterways across the city, data is sent to a digital twin platform for analysis and decision making.  After the implementation of this technology, the disruption of water supply in the city decreased by 42%.  Here are the best results and a video detailing how this was achieved.  Águas e Energia do Porto uses Bentley’s OpenFlows technology.</p>
<p>• The second video shows the company <strong>Companhia Águas de Joinville (CAJ)</strong> He is in Joinville, Brazil.  It is a city that suffers from seasonal drought.  The worst of these is currently occurring, not recorded in 30 years. The associated water shortages are having a major impact on the lives of local communities.  A hydraulic model implemented by a digital twin helps to evaluate the performance of the system, as well as its possible effects after the introduction of specific changes. </p>
