Alfa Romeo V6, the best six cylinder according to some

The six-cylinder engine has been redesigned in every way in the BMW, it takes the form of an in-line six-cylinder, in the Porsche, a flat-six. But it was Alfa Romeo that succeeded where others failed, by betting on the V6. A look back at this late engine that made us dream so much.

This design, avoided by the manufacturers, did not wait for Alfa Romeo to see the light of day. The truth is that this engine did not give the best power or the best efficiency, but its wonderful song was able to release disappointment. So we got the Ferrari, with the V6 Dino or even the US at Ford. The first Alfa V6 saw the light of day in 1979, with a displacement of 2.5 liters.. It is the brainchild of Giuseppe Busso who, at the time, was one of Italy’s leading engine manufacturers. After working with Ferrari to develop the V12, he returned to Alfa Romeo and participated in the design of the V6. Then it will be presented to the eyes of the world, under the hood of the legendary Alfa 6 sedan.

From the 1980s, this engine was available in many versions. The V6 increases to 3 liters in the 75, which will be one of Alfa’s last rear-wheel drive models. Because the future takeover of Fiat will lead to the use of its platforms, especially in traction. But the turbo V6 puts the engine’s desire to age one step ahead. Its redesign will feature a 3-liter 24-valve engine that will go on sale in 1998.

But all good things must come to an end, and the Arese plant closed its doors in 2005, marking the end of the Alfa Romeo V6 engine.. The Fiat Group, instead of investing in the development of an environmentally friendly V6, preferred to join forces with GM to develop the Holden 3.2 V6, but the magic is no longer there…
