BMW reveals the secret 7 Series with a V16 engine for the first time

Feel free to call this BMW The Last Benzinebender, because this series 7 can turn the liquid in the tank into a vortex on command. Because under the extended hood of this never-before-seen model is a V16 engine. BMW created this model in 1990, but hid it from the public for more than thirty years.

A careful reader may find one ready to appear, but then you’re probably thinking of a different model. Two years earlier, BMW built the ‘Goudvis’, also with a V16 engine, but based on the E32 generation. The new V16 sedan already looks more production-ready without the large side air intake.

The new BMW’s engine measures 6,646 cc, which is slightly smaller than Goudvis’ 6,651 cc V16. Power is also less: 348 hp compared to 408 hp. The top speed of the just revealed 7 Series is 250 km/h and shifting is through a five-speed automatic transmission. Goudvis had a manual gearbox.

The engine is not the BMW’s most impressive feature

Power isn’t the most impressive thing about this BMW 7 series with a V16 engine; In fact, by modern standards it is quite tame. No, the fun thing to see is bodywork. It is somewhere between the E32 and E38 generations. The side view is definitely amazing.

The 34-year-delayed launch raises the question of how many other BMWs could be found in the depths of Munich. Is there also a version of the newer M3 with a V8? Or are there more M5s with V10s – or even V12s? I hope it comes out again one day…
