BMW brings video games to the infotainment system of the new 5 Series

Automakers are standing still investing heavily in the development of infotainment systems which are becoming more modern. In particular, more and more importance is given entertainment related features. Over time we have seen services related to video streaming and even real sports arrive inside cars.

The new generation BMW 5 Series was presented a few days ago and will also be offered in a 100% electric BMW i5 variant. Compared to the previous model, there has also been a big step forward in technology. Inside the passenger compartment we find, in fact, BMW curved display which combines the 12.3-inch instrument screen with that of the actual 14.9-inch infotainment system. In particular, on the new Series 5/i5 we find the new iDrive 8.5 platform for the infotainment system that offers a wide range of digital content for information and entertainment.

Especially, about the new sedan it will be possible to play so-called “casual games” thanks to the integration of AirConsole, a gaming platform from the Swiss software company N-Dream. A platform that in the future will come to other models of the German brand with the BMW Curved Display and the iDrive 8.5 infotainment version.

HOW DOES IT WORK?

Obviously, it will only be possible to play with a fixed car. These small sports, as the German brand explains, can be better, for example, to pass when the car completes a full tank of energy. To play, passengers only need their own smartphone that will be used as a controller. After starting the AirConsole app in the car, the connection with the smartphone can be established by scanning the QR code that will appear on the Curved BMW Display.

All the passengers of the car will be able to have fun during the stops as the platform allows several people to play at the same time. The original “standard sports” option will be available on the new BMW 5/i5 Series. In particular, initially people will be able to play 15 titles including ‘Go Kart Go’, ‘Golazo’, ‘Music Guess’ and ‘Overcooked’. Over time, the German brand says, more titles will arrive that can be downloaded and run in the car.
