Lando Norris: “We’re not going to win any time soon” / Formula 1

McLaren team boss Andrea Stella said at Suzuka that his team will be able to celebrate a race win this year. But Lando Norris tempers expectations and warns: It won’t happen that quickly.

In Japan, Lando Norris had to settle for fifth place behind two Red Bull Racing stars and Ferrari drivers. By doing so, he got the results he expected, as he emphasizes in the memoirs: “Everything went as expected. If we did a good job, more space on the pitch would be possible. But I think we weren’t too far off.”

And the McLaren star explains: “We have always been in the same position this season, behind Red Bull Racing and Ferrari and one step ahead of Aston Martin and Mercedes. But we know what problems we have and what we need to improve. If we can do that, we can win the race this year and fight forward. But first we have to improve the car.”

That is why he does not expect quick success. “We’re not going to win anytime soon, that’s for sure,” Norris says in response to team boss Andrea Stella’s statement that the traditional racing team from Woking will be in a position to celebrate a GP victory this year. “But if we’re in the right place at the right time, it’s possible.”

But first you have to get rid of the weakness. And one of them is the long curves, like the ones on the Shanghai track. The 24-year-old is convinced: “This type of corner is not the best for us, as we saw last year in Zandvoort. But we have a few things that we will try, and of course we are always trying to improve in those areas. But that is one of our weaknesses This may not have an impact on qualifying, but it will be a big problem for us in the race.”
